“Any man can be a Father but it takes someone special to be a dad.” -Anne Geddes
Today on your birthday, I take this opportunity to write a letter to you and express how much I truly love and admire you.
It has almost been 30 years since I have known you. A father is said to be the first man in a daughters life, the first man to show her what love is. He makes a huge impact on his daughters life and I’m thankful that you made a positive one on mine.
From teaching me how to walk, to teaching me how to deal with life, you have always taught me how to stand on my own two feet. You not only protected me but also taught me how to defend myself when you’re not around.
You have always been there whenever I needed you or even when I don’t. You always stood beside me, smiling proudly and making me feel good about myself. You were always there as a father, with whom I can confide almost everything- my fears, my mistakes, my successes, my failures and you always listened and guided me while being a pillar of support in my hard times.
You have absolutely no idea how much I appreciate the life lessons you’ve taught me or how much I value it. You also have no idea how grateful I am to have a father like you.
As much as I want to thank you, I also want to apologize. I know I have been tough to handle. I have snapped back at you on various occasions but trust me I never wanted to hurt you. I always want to make you proud. Whether it is my small achievements, university, jobs/career, me as a human or doing something BIG in life. I’m so thankful you’ve been present for it all!
But, what I realize at 29 is that no one can replace your father figure. Yes, you may get married or find your life partner but everyone will be compared to your role model and hopefully you won’t settle for less than respect, honesty and real love.
My dad adores my mom – – he thinks she’s the “bees-knees” and loves spending time with her, even after 30+ years together! I think my biggest lesson from you dad is to make sure you find loyalty that matches yours, in a life partner.
I am SO lucky you are my dad and I hope you know that you’ve set the bar very high and I won’t settle for less!
I hope you understand how important you are to me and how much I love you!
Happy Birthday Dad, miss you!
